We've all been in that situation where temptations, events, or just wanting to let loose has caused us to not stick to our "diet" or macro count for the day. We are human, and in case you haven't caught on we are NOT perfect by any means.
Maybe it was a friend's wedding, a work holiday party, or perhaps your boo surprising you with an outing where you just weren't able to stay on track like you wanted. First let me point out, THAT'S OKAY! It's okay to not be 100% all the time, and with life being short it is more than okay to enjoy yourself.
What's not okay though, is to feel extreme guilt later on about the choices you made. I used to be that person. When it came to going to dinner with friends, I avoided it like the plague. The rare times I did go, my workout the next day had additional time "to work the calories off"...it was miserable. If life is meant to be enjoyed, and creating memories, how can holding the guilt later on add value to that?
Here are my top things to do after you have "fallen" off track:
Lose the guilt trip- the past is done, no need to harp on it.
Forgive yourself- you're human remember (:
Don't weigh yourself the next day.
Drink plenty of water.
Go back to your normal eating routine.
Don't restrict your macros the next day.
There's no need to add extra cardio, or a harder workout to bounce back.
Get plenty of sleep.
Eat plenty of veggies.
Go for walk.
Switch your mindset to be okay with not being perfect.
Remind yourself of the good moments you had with others during that event.
Life is all about BALANCE. In one year there are 365 days. If in 365 you have 7 days that you "fall" off track, do you realize that is only 2% of the WHOLE YEAR. Two percent is nothing in regards to your results / goals. If your life is about balance, and daily 80% of your food choices are nutrient dense whole foods there is also nothing to worry about.
The next time the holidays come around, your birthday is approaching, a wedding is about to be here, don't let food be the stressor you focus on. Instead, embrace the moments with those you care about, and go create some freaking memories.
We should all be living our best lives, not revolving our lives around food.
