Getting Smart With Mental Health:


In a study, it has been shown that 1:4 people suffer from some sort of mental health illness throughout the year. Ranging from the "common" end of depression to anxiety, to the "rarer" side such as bipolar, or schizophrenia your over all mental health isn't something to take lightly.


When it comes to mental health though, it seems as though some people have more of a "tough it up" approach vs. actually dealing with / acknowledging that something might be going on. We all have mental health, the real question though is how "healthy" is your mental health? The other question that comes with how healthy is your overall mental health, is how do you take care of it / keep a healthy mind?



The brain is like a muscle, and just like any muscle we have to train it properly to function correctly. This overall state impacts how we think, feel, and act. In regards to having a healthy mental health status, it is important to work on coping skills. As life happens we all go through times of happiness, sadness, stress, and feelings of being overwhelmed. However, if we do not have the capabilities of how to handle those emotions, keeping a healthy mind can be quite the uphill battle. The other thing to note too is that most don't always speak about how they're feeling due to thinking it is a sign of #weakness. (This my friends is NOT the case at all).


For years I struggled with #anxiety, while it wasn't diagnosed I could tell that something was just off. I never really talked about it for the same reason mentioned above, I felt weak for saying I wasn't okay. Everything I didn't have the mapped out answer too caused me stress, as my grandmother would say, "You worry yourself sick". I literally created stress for a problem that wasn't even a problem. While I didn't mean to, I couldn't help it. Being type A personality wise, I like to know things. Details, plans, order, I need to know every detail and when there is any room for error.. well my head starts spinning. It wasn't until I really started working on my inner self, that I was able to gain control of my mind again.


Here are my tips to creating a healthy mindset:

  • Be aware of your thoughts

  • Surround yourself with the right people

  • Daily physical activity

  • Read

  • Get a dog (no seriously, care for something else besides you)

  • Switch your thoughts, your energy is a magnet be careful what you're attracting

  • Take time to enjoy things you love

  • Ditch the over thinking

  • Eat healthy

  • Accept who you are flaws and all

The biggest takeaway I have from my past with anxiety or feeling anxious is to not be afraid to voice your feelings. Never feel ashamed for asking for help / saying you're not okay. If you're struggling, I challenge you to try some of these tips, even if it's just one thing. At the end of the day, we all deserve happiness.
